The festive season is coming to an end, reality is going to present itself like a thief in the night… and boom you blink and it’s 2022! But alas do not fear, you will be alright, and yes I said it, you will be alright.
Over the years, in this life of mine I have had the tendency of thinking that, what is obvious to me ought to be obvious to and for others. No no no that is not how things roll… I was wrong and still remain wrong. So I started writing.
Yes of course we eavesdropped on our parents as children, I still don’t know why, but we did!
Coming from a large family I started writing poetry for my parents. My father enjoyed my scribbles and as for my mother, I’d often find the pieces of my hard “work” with writings of Bible verses at the back, that she’d read at church… “Wow” I’d think to myself and so I stopped writing for her. She just was not my fan, I had decided, finish and klaar…
Now, my father on the other hand would, everytime we had visitors, often boasted about my poems… especially the ones with spelling mistakes, errors and all… But most of all it was the things I wrote about that gave him a high. And as usual him and the visitors would start embarking on intense conversations about other relatives and family members, passed and or living. Yes of course we eavesdropped on our parents as children, I still don’t know why, but we did! I sure hope you did too cause it was at those times they spoke about us kids.. their brood.

It is in these eavesdropping sessions we did, that I got to learn that “eish, I Am not an Individual” For decades I kept this a secret but today I feel deep down in my bone of bones that I should share the secret with you! “Ow bethunana ufuze uMakhulu wakhe”… “Yazi uyafana no Dadobawo wakhe”… “Kodwa angamfuzi kulanto”… “NguKhokho wakhe ehleli”…
These are some of the things we heard and me being me never forgot those things… How could I and for that matter who would?
Anyhow, let me stop here. Till we meet again next year in 2022 and we shall take off where we left off!”Umuntu nguMuntu NgabaNtu”
