With a rumoured price tag of £20m (roughly R390m), which would make it the world’s most expensive new car, two of the Boat Tail’s owners are said to be celebrity couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z, according to The Telegraph. The stunning cabriolet is named after the tapered rear end—a style which dates back to the 1920s, when cars like the Auburn 851 Speedster and Bentley Speed Six Boat-Tail were the talk of the town.  Rolls-Royce uses the Phantom’s 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 to power its Boat Tail. Peak power rates at 420 kW.

The transforming rear “deck” is what gives Boat Tail its name. A button-press shifts its synchronized butterfly panels upwards, revealing a temperature-controlled hosting suite accompanied by a polished and color-matched champagne refrigerator, engraved silver cutlery fabricated by Paris’ Christofle and a purpose-built parasol.

Two-sided timepieces, one for the lady and one for the gentleman, can be worn or placed within the fascia as car clocks. The timepieces required Rolls-Royce and Bovet 1822 to work in partnership for over three years.

A double refrigerator houses the clients’ favourite vintages of Armand de Brignac champagne. Bottles can be rapidly cooled to precisely six degrees – the optimum serving temperature of the preferred vintage.

‘Boat Tail is our most ambitious project yet. Coachbuild, in collaboration with its clients, has ignored all preconceived notions of possibility and set a new standard. This is Bespoke at its purest.’
