I am proud of being black and my lineage, but black people what is UBUNTU? Its always said that black people have UBUNTU, the spirit of humanity, its said black families have the spirit of unity within their families and communities they live in but what exactly is UBUNTU? What exactly does that mean in today’s world, when a child after loosing both parents and left with no inheritance has to step up and learn to take care of themselves in all areas of their life because no one in the family wants to take upon themselves the full responsibility of being a parent to that child.
After having talked to a few people who had a very tough upbringing as orphans , the one thing in common they all say they longed for as they grew up was being loved and accepted as full members of their families. Being pitied and spoilt because they had no parents is not what they wanted. They yearned for loved and acceptance.

It is a constant desire as an orphan to have someone step in and fill the role of being a parent towards you as a child and genuinely love you as their own. Love you without making you feel any inferior about yourself. After the passing of your one and only surviving parent everyone just moves on with their lives and expects you to do the same. It becomes very challenging especially when the child is not getting any therapy or counselling which most black families do not believe in or have access to.
Home should be comfortable, home should be warm and home should be a safe place for everyone who belongs in it.
The love of a family is life’s greatest blessing
Slowly, the behaviour of that child will change because, inside’, that child is fighting and battling demons that no one in the family understands. The life of that child becomes a struggle everyday and each day gets tougher and resentment towards family members will start building up. The family will refuse to see what’s eating the child but instead hate that child because from the beginning they never even wanted to parent up towards that child. When the child becomes resentful towards them, hate will be an easy escape for them towards the child and label the child as a disrespectful orphan who ends up not being wanted by anyone within the family, those who will try to step in will be pushed away. Families get destroyed through this.Â

Most black families should learn to see the importance of getting therapy or counselling as a family
Kids who are loved and accepted are kids who are left an inheritance after their have parents have passed on. In most cases children left with nothing are just seen as a burden that no one wants to take upon themselves. Most black families should learn to see the importance of getting therapy or counselling as a family, to help give guidance and help resolve any issues they have amongst themselves. Most blacks don’t believe in it but, therapy can save a life.
Let us all love each other within our families and show love and kindness towards each other. Whether someone is monied or not, let us show respect and acknowledge everyone’s position within the family regardless of level of education and the heaviness or emptiness of their pockets. Everyone is a special gift within the family that deserves to be treated with respect and honour.

Let’s raise up the black flag of loving all orphans to eliminate people who end up killing themselves or run to the streets to look for comfort in the wrong places. Home should be comfortable, home should be warm and home should be a safe place for everyone who belongs in it.
Of course cases are not always the same amongst families. Other families are very warm and loving. Let’s spread love amongst each other.Â
