Israel “Izzy” Mashele, founder of AmaRoom app, and his childhood friend Oskido have a friendship based on mutual interests, respect and trust. The two have worked closely for over 6 years on the AmaRoom app which went live on app stores on the 5^th of June 2021. The nature of their friendship and the complimentary skills that each of them brings to the table make this partnership work seamlessly.

Like most tech start-ups, the company was built on a shoe-string budget using the founders’ personal savings. The success of other brands that came out of Kasi, such as MoFaya and Drip, motivated the team to make huge sacrifices to bring their dream to life and become another kasi success story. The company runs its operation from a backroom in Ebony Park, Tembisa. Typical “humble beginnings” story of most of today’s tech giants.

Being a landlord himself Izzy worked with agents to help him find tenants. He would also put up posters around his hood to advertise his rooms. A conversation he had with his agent got him thinking about other ways of marketing his property and that is when the idea for the app was born.

AmaRoom aims to make it easy for landlords to advertise their properties. The app cuts out the middleman and enables landlords and tenants to connect in the comfort of their own individual spaces. The added bonus for both parties is there are no agent fees!!

As with any new product there users take time to accept and adopt the new product. The market seems to have eventually caught on and at the time of writing, two weeks after the launch, downloads were sitting at just over 1000.

The positive reviews showed that the app is exactly what the market needed. With its clean and user friendly interface it’s no wonder people are loving it and using it to find their ideal tenant or room.

The team is working on new features for the app, in consultation with current and prospective users. With such a dynamic forward thinking approach the company is certainly going to gain a sizeable user base for the app
