There are many economic and social challenges faced by communities all over South Africa. Some challenges are unique to specific communities and others are common and prevalent in the various communities across the provinces. Fortunately for the residents of Vosloorus, a township in the Eastern part of Gauteng, a group of five selfless ladies have taken a stand and made it their mission to address the problem of unemployment and provide access to affordable further education and personal development resources.

Thick goddess
The five ladies with their team of assistant executives run an organisation called Thick Goddess Modelling Training Academy. Established in August 2019 the organisation runs its operations from Vosloorus stadium. As the Name suggests, Thick Goddess was established to provide training to plus size women who have aspirations of entering the modelling industry. Mentorship and skills development are at the core of what they do.
The training provided enables the trainees to gain an in-depth understanding of the industry. Some of the content included in the training cover topics such as practical modelling classes, back stage crew roles, catalogue modelling training for photo shoots. Trainees at Thick Goddess engage in a lot of exciting events and activities such as workshops, bootcamps, mountain hiking trips, aerobics and fashion shows.
Thick Goddess has attracted major attention from different stakeholders and this has afforded them the opportunity to get TV, Magazines and radio appearances. The founders are now also getting speaking gigs due to the popularity of their service but, mostly because of the difference they are making.

The organisation’s medium term vision is to take get SETA accreditation Collaborate with gyms , take the concept to all townships across the country and to continue making a difference in the lives of women.
