Each and everyone of us was created for something far better than just to consume space on earth, we were created to do and achieve good, and better. Yes from time to time we may stumble and fall along the way but it is possible to overcome whatever trials and tribulations that one may come to face and continue to work towards achieving their goals and desires through determination and great focus.
Barriers will always be there in one’s life that is why it’s important to know how to identify them and then develop a strategy to work towards overcoming them so that they do not stop you from reaching your ultimate best.
Those who follow the crowd usually get lost in it.
5 OF THE MOST COMMON BARRIERS TO PERSONAL GROWTH DEVELOPMENT
Fear
Fear is the worst self imposed prison that can keep you from becoming what you intend to be. Some people fear failure therefore they spend a lifetime trying to play it safe and stick to what they know. They are afraid of exploring many other options in life because in their ears there’s always that small whisper asking them what if you fail.
Some people fear change, they become too comfortable in their current way of living or doing things and end up thinking that is the only way to live through life because that’s the only way they know how to live and do things, they fear that what if things don’t work out when they step into a different ladder or a different territory and they stumble and fall.
People who’s lives are driven by fear always miss out on the great opportunities in life because they are afraid to venture out and choose to maintain their current status quo.
Procrastination
This is one of the worst barriers that can prevent you from achieving your goals. At most times people know exactly what they want and they know the necessary steps or guidelines to follow that will help them to work towards achieving the better or the best in their lives but they become too lazy to start, not because they don’t know how to start but because they keep postponing for the following day, when it comes they postpone for the day after and the day after that. In the end they end up not starting they just keep coming up with self imposed excuses of being busy to start or whatever else reason just in the name of procrastinating. You cannot bring back missed time that has passed, make use of the present time to implement positive things that will help to improve or create positive changes in your life.
Need For Approval
Many people are not free to live up to their best capabilities because they live to please other people, they allow expectations of other people to control their lives and determine how and what they ought to be in life. There’s adults who are still fighting through life just so they can get approval of their parents, there’s people who get into certain things just to get approval of their friends, others are mostly driven by peer pressure, always worried about what other people think of them and the way they do things. Unfortunately in life those who follow the crowd usually get lost in it.

Resentment
Some people go through life holding on to the things that hurt them in the past, they spend most of their time rehearsing them over and over and eventually they allow anger to take over and control their lives instead of letting go and releasing yourself from pain. Yes the shallowness of one’s wounds may not be the same but there’s always better ways to deal with anger and resentment that can help to give you space to breathe instead of internalising your emotions and allow it to control how you live your life. We get hurt most of the times by things we do not have control over but holding on to resentment always hurts you more than the person that caused it. Its important to know that the things that have hurt you in the past cannot continue to hurt you in your present life and they definitely have no power to control your future unless you continue to hold on to them. Do not allow anger to control your ways of living, it will block you from achieving a lot of things and miss out on great opportunities in life.
Guilt
This again is one of the things that can become one of the barriers to growth in life. We have all made mistakes in life, big or small and it does not help to spend most of your lifetime running away from the mistakes you made in your past or trying to hide away from it. People who allow themselves to be controlled by their past often allow themselves to be manipulated by memories of the past, in their unconsciousness they punish themselves by sabotaging their own lives because they can’t achieve certain things, they are busy with guilt. Let the past remain in the past and learn from it. Do not give it power to control your thoughts. Do not allow yourself to be a prisoner of the things that have passed and cannot be changed.
Parting Shot
Work towards achieving your best and do not allow anything to tell you less and stop you from growing yourself. Fight those barriers and work on overcoming them so you can have great passion to work on your goals and have a more meaningful life.

Thought provoking piece. Made me revaluate myself. I know I may be one of those who procrastinate as well fearful of failure. That has to change.
Thank you…i have come across some of these barriers in my life too.
